Did You Know?
Bison is leaner than beef and is a healthier choice if you're looking to reduce your calorie or fat intake. It has nearly 25% fewer calories than beef and is lower in total and saturated fat. Additionally, due to its lower fat content, bison has finer fat marbling, yielding softer and more tender meat.
We now offer online ordering for pick up or local delivery (within 30 miles of Malcom, Iowa)

At Sunset Hills Bison Ranch, we care deeply for our animals - and for the land. If you follow us on social, you'll see that. It is just the natural outgrowth of our enjoyment of farm life, and love of neighbor - and we wouldn't have it any other way.
We are also members of the National Bison Association, Minnesota Bison Association and Choose Iowa! We spend a lot of our time researching best practices and learning about bison. Bison in Iowa is not uncommon, however it is not widely known. We aim to educate across the state about American Buffalo in Iowa.

Sunset Hills Bison Ranch is a family-owned and operated Iowa bison producer dedicated to raising healthy, happy animals and providing premium-quality meat and farm products directly from our ranch to your family. Our deep care for our animals shines through in every product we offer—because when you know and trust your source, you can feel confident about what you’re putting on your table and into your body.
If you haven’t made the switch from beef to bison—or from store-bought to farm-fresh—now’s the perfect time to start! For our local friends, we also offer delivery within a 30-mile radius.
Our self-service retail store is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, so you can stop by anytime to shop our bison meat, local goods, and other farm-fresh favorites right from the source.

Savory Steaks
Most of our steaks are packed two per package. They range from 0.5lbs to 2.5lbs. They are best cooked medium rare. When bison is overcooked it does dry out due to the very low fat content!

Unreal Roast
There isn't much better than popping a roast in a slow cooker and coming home to a fabulous meal! Bison is the only thing that can make that supper any better!
Bison roast is very versatile and can be used in place of beef in most all recipes.

We must not forget to mention our amazing bison burgers and our ground bison. Our 1/3lb bison burgers are still bun sized after cooking! Due to the low fat, they do not flair while grilling and are a perfect addition to any meal.
We also have snack sticks, summer sausage. jerky, ribs and more!

Our Vision
At Sunset Hills Bison Ranch, we aim to provide high quality, low stress, healthy grass fed, bison for livestock sales and bison meat products for the growing industry. We are family owned and operated. We honor what God has created for us, and respect the role this majestic animal has in our American History. Our customers can feel confident knowing we nurture our bison with nature and treat them with care while providing only necessary antibiotics. We provide a safe, friendly, wholesome family environment that will spark the imagination of each, and every, visitor on our ranch.
Whether your idea of fun is a cozy cabin with vast views or Glamping where the buffalo roam we have you covered.
Our cabin houses 7 guests comfortably with one queen bed, three twin beds and one queen sofa sleeper. The cabin boasts a cozy wood burning stove and is open year round. With bison right out the front door or a short walk from the cabin (depending on the season and herd dynamic), you can't go wrong waking up to the birds chirping and the bison roaming.
Step back in time without sacrificing luxury. Our three 1883 style Conestoga® Wagons have a king bed, bunk beds, heat & A/C and are about 9 feet tall on the inside. Our standard wagons have a private bathroom about 30 steps away from their front door and our lux wagon has a bathroom inside the wagon. All three have beautiful views of the bison summer pastures and a private stock tank pool. *Pools may not be available due to weather.* - The Wagons are open April - October.
The entire ranch can be rented out to house 19 people. Tents are welcome when one group rents the whole farm.
Please understand that we are not a zoo. We must do what is best for the herd and the land. Some days, the bison may not be viewable.
